Why not inspect before ?

It was the year 1956 and Rangan was studying in 7 th class. One holiday evening Rangan’s father was cutting a mango which turned rotten when opened. Rangan told his father

“Why you did not inspect the Mango before buying?”.

Father smiled and kept quiet. Rangan too forgot about this incident. One day, his father told him to accompany him, as he was going out. He was thrilled at the thought of going with his father. He took Ranga to the usual fruit vendor and introduced. He told the vendor,

“Rangan is my son and from today onwards, he will be coming to your shop and you should help him”.

The vendor nodded with a smile. On the way back, father stopped at the usual vegetable and provision shops and told the shop keepers the same thing. While returning home, father bought some chocolates, which he never used to do. On reaching home, father called everyone, distributed chocolates and said

“Rangan will buy all vegetables, fruits and provisions from today. Everyone should help him”.

Rangan could not understand the mind of his father as he only knew that he should obey his father. A few weeks later, Rangan started extending help to his sisters in household chores like keeping the firewood over the attic, storing charcoal, kerosene etc for the home. His eldest sister Kamala and elder sister Rajam took care of the house work. After extending the helping hand on kneading wheat flour for making roties and poories, Rangan will get a few more additional units as a gesture. It is here that Rangan has developed a taste for doing household chores and cooking.
