Hindu High School

Rangan is now 13 years, the year 1957. Hindu High School was one of the prestigious and reputed educational institutions in Madras. During one of the class room interactive sessions, the 8th class teacher got wild with the student Satyanarayanan for not paying attention to physics, especially heights and distances. As a punishment the teacher said “Satyanarayanan ! You stand up on the bench. You slap your cheeks with your own hands 6 times for not doing your home work properly”. Rangan had seen him hard working and realised that he might not have understood the subject “heights and distances”. Rangan immediately stood up and said “Sir. I shall teach Satyanarayanan Heights and Distances. If he does not do well , I will stand up on the bench and slap my cheeks 6 times”. By explaining the basics of heights, Satyanarayanan got transformed into a very good learner and acquiring very good marks, to everybody’s surprise.  Rangan had by now understood the mind of fellow school mates.  Many school mates even started coming to his home in Triplicane, since it had a big area to study along with classmates.  These events had got fused into Rangan’s mind to assist class mates in understanding and securing good marks. In the process, Rangan became more and more obedient.
