Rangan felt a little bit sad for obtaining 2nd class in PUC but all the family members encouraged him to continue with BSc course with the subject of his choice, as Chemistry commencing from Jun 1961. Rangan did not lose heart and focussed on his studies, still hoping that some day, he would join Engineering College with 2nd Class. He completed the first year, BSc securing the first rank in the Vivekananda College.
