Thread ceremony

The year 1962 was an eventful year, opening up a new chapter for Rangan. His eldest sister Kamala and elder sister Rajam were managing the home affairs. The sacred thread ceremony was organised by father for Rangan and his younger brother Devanathan during March.  All relatives in and around Triplicane attended the ceremony. Considering our inclination to learn, father extended the services of a teacher to train in performing the daily rituals, related to the Upanayanam. It was fun and also interesting to learn the fundamentals of Pranayamam, taking deep breath, viewing the morning Sun, washing feet regularly, body hygiene, surya namaskaram to name a few. At the end of the session the teacher said “Listen Rangan! Devanathan ! Remember that you should always get up before sunrise and avoid morning sun’s rays from falling into your eyes. If you practice this, you will never have headache and other nerve related ailments”.
