Rangan followed the foot steps of his elder brothers and joined
Pre University Course offered by Vivekananda College in Mylapore in Jun 1960.
Maths, Physics and Chemistry were chosen as the main and Logic as the
ancillary subject. To his great surprise, Rangachari also opted for the same
subjects and studied together. Srinivasan from Nathan’s Coffee was also his
class mate staying very close to his house in Triplicane. Srinivasan had a
bicycle. He was very helpful, in escorting Rangan for the early morning,
weekly NCC and on return Rangan was to take Srinivasan in his bicycle from
Vivekananda College, a distance of 6 to 7 kilo meters. The arrangement worked
very well without any incident.
Though Rangan worked hard, he could clear the PUC only in II
Class. Rangachari had cleared PUC in 1st Class.
